Louvenia “Kitty” Perkins is a fashion designer who made the first African Barbie in 1979. She designed barbie outfits for over twenty-five years.
Kitty Perkins is a graduate of Los Angeles Trade Technical College who specialized in fashion design. She was such a successful doll designer at Mattel Barbie, that she received the DOTY (Doll Of The Year) award in 1994.
In spite of Segregation which she suffered as a teenager and young adult, she graduated with a college degree and became the best hand for the Mattel Barbie group of companies.
